Ingredients
Scale
- 6 slices thick bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 1-2 tablespoons butter for frying
- Maple syrup for serving
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Trim crusts from bread slices and gently flatten with a rolling pin.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and salt to make an egg wash.
- Stir together sugar and cinnamon in another bowl. Brush each bread slice with the egg wash, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, and roll tightly; seal seam.
- Slice each roll into 3-4 pinwheels. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook roll-ups in batches, turning until all sides are golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Serve warm with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar.
Notes
- Use day-old bread for best texture and easier rolling.
- Keep rolls tightly rolled to prevent filling from oozing out.
- Cook over medium heat for even browning and crisp texture.
- Pair with fresh berries for color and brightness.
