- For the Rolls:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet of active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- For the Butterscotch Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butterscotch sauce
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Start by foaming the yeast in warm milk. Combine 1 packet of active dry yeast and 1/2 cup warm milk in a bowl. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup melted butter, and 1/2 teaspoon salt to the yeast mixture. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
- Once kneaded, roll out the dough into a rectangular shape. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon and sugar. Roll the dough tightly into a log, slice it into pieces, and place them on a baking tray.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Let the rolls rise for about 30 minutes and then bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool before frosting.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the Butterscotch Cream Cheese Frosting by beating 8 oz of softened cream cheese and gradually adding 1/2 cup of butterscotch sauce, 1 cup of powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Once the rolls have cooled, generously spread the Butterscotch Cream Cheese Frosting on each roll. Optionally, drizzle additional butterscotch sauce on top.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- You can use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend as a substitute for all-purpose flour.
- Freeze the rolls before or after baking; thaw overnight in the fridge when ready to enjoy.
- To make them less sweet, reduce the amount of sugar in the dough and frosting.
