- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
For the Butterscotch Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butterscotch sauce
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add melted butter, eggs, and salt, mixing well. Gradually combine with the flour until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough, roll out into a rectangle, and cut into strips. Roll each piece to form the rolls.
- Place the rolls onto a greased baking tray and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Bake the rolls in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Let them cool slightly before frosting with Butterscotch Cream Cheese Frosting.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, butterscotch sauce, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Beat until smooth and creamy.
- Spread frosting generously over cooled rolls and serve immediately.
Notes
- Store any leftover rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- For longer storage, freeze the rolls (without frosting) for up to 3 months.
- You can prepare the dough, shape the rolls, and place them in the refrigerator overnight before baking the next day.
- Caramel sauce can be used instead of butterscotch sauce for a variation.
