Ingredients

  • 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 cups (300ml) warm water (110°F)
  • 1 cup (100g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (plus extra for greasing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, yeast, and salt.
  2. Add warm water, honey, and melted butter; stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Fold in shredded cheddar cheese and mix until just incorporated.
  4. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let rise at room temperature for 12–18 hours (overnight).
  5. Preheat Dutch oven with lid inside at 450°F (230°C) for 30 minutes.
  6. Transfer dough to parchment paper, shape into a round loaf, and carefully lower into the hot Dutch oven.
  7. Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover, reduce heat to 425°F (220°C), and bake 15–20 more minutes until deep golden brown.
  8. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
