  • Total Time: 1 hour 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 breadsticks 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy to activate the yeast.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and olive oil. Add the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  3. Punch down the dough and transfer to a floured surface. Roll into a ½ inch thick rectangle. Spread shredded mozzarella evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with grated Parmesan. Roll tightly to enclose the cheese, then cut into 1-inch wide strips. Twist each strip slightly.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place breadsticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with melted butter mixed with garlic powder.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy on the edges. Brush with more melted butter and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Sprinkle extra cheese on top for added cheesiness. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle herbs like oregano or basil onto the dough before rolling.
  • Use fresh garlic or garlic paste for a more intense garlic flavor.
  • To make gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend and add xanthan gum if needed.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes to restore crispness.
