Indulge in the comfort of Easy Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joes — a quick and cheesy meal perfect for busy weeknights. This recipe combines the classic sloppy joe flavors with the gooey richness of grilled cheese, making it a family favorite that’s ready in no time.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices of bread
  • Butter, for spreading
  • 8 slices of cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef with the chopped onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Lightly butter one side of each bread slice. Place four slices butter-side down and add two cheese slices on top.
  4. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture over the cheese, add another cheese slice and top with remaining bread slices, butter-side up. Grill on medium heat until golden brown.

Notes

  • Choose a well-melting cheese like cheddar or mozzarella.
  • Sourdough or Texas toast adds extra flavor.
  • Maintain medium heat to evenly cook the sandwich.
  • Ensure the sloppy joe mixture isn’t overly runny.
  • Add diced bell peppers or jalapeños for extra flavor.
