- 8 small corn tortillas
- 1 small onion, diced

- 1 teaspoon cumin

Instructions
- In a skillet over medium-high heat, add a splash of vegetable oil. Once heated, add the diced onion and cook until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Stir in the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Season with chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through. Set aside.
- In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil until shimmering. Carefully fry each corn tortilla until golden and crispy, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels. For a healthier option, bake the tortillas in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 8-10 minutes until crispy.
- Place each crispy tortilla on a serving plate. Spread a generous spoonful of the seasoned ground beef on top. Add shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese. Garnish with fresh cilantro and a dollop of sour cream. Serve immediately with salsa on the side for added flavor.
Notes
- To keep the tostadas crispy, assemble just before serving. Store beef and toppings separately if making ahead. Reheat beef in a skillet or microwave. To restore crispiness, re-crisp tortillas in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
- For extra flavor, consider adding diced jalapeños or hot sauce. Use store-bought or homemade guacamole for added creaminess. Double fry the tortillas for an extra crunchy texture.
