A creamy, cheesy potato gratin layered with herbs and baked until golden and bubbling, ideal as a festive holiday side dish.

Ingredients

  • 4 large Russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Fresh thyme for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Layer sliced potatoes in the dish, overlapping slightly.
  3. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, garlic, salt, and pepper; heat until just simmering.
  4. Pour cream mixture over potatoes, then sprinkle with Gruyere and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. Garnish with fresh thyme before serving.
