Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb ground beef (or plant-based alternative)
- 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 6 hamburger buns, lightly toasted
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15–18 minutes until deep golden brown.
- Add garlic and cook 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Push onions to one side, add ground beef, and cook until browned, breaking into crumbles.
- Stir in tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer uncovered for 10 minutes until thickened.
- Preheat broiler to high. Sprinkle cheese over the top and broil 2–3 minutes until melted and bubbly.
- Serve on toasted buns, garnished with parsley if desired.
Notes
- For extra depth, add a splash of balsamic vinegar during the last 2 minutes of simmering.
- Use plant-based ground crumbles for a vegetarian version—but the cheesy topping makes it just as indulgent.
